50 jaar geleden startte Irish Coffee in Aalst en liet meteen van zich horen met de hit single “Masterpiece/The Show” . Kort daarna volgde een – nu legendarisch - album dat uitgroeide tot één der meest gezochte collector-items ter wereld. De band hield het reeds na enkele zeer succesvolle jaren voor bekeken.
Songwriter en zanger William Souffreau, 74 ondertussen, is zondermeer de éminence grise van de Belgische rock, met een indrukwekkende discografie, en nog steeds erg actief zowel solo (in 2017 verscheen bij Starman Records nog het uitstekende solo-album “Tobacco Fields”) als met Irish Coffee.
Irish Coffee werd terug opgestart in 2005 met een studio-album en een live-album opgenomen tijdens de passage van de groep in het legendarische Duitse muziek programma Rockpalast (WDR). In 2013 nam hij samen met zijn powerrocktrio het voortreffelijke “IC-Revisited” op. Twee jaar later gevolgd door het door fans en pers uitstekend onthaalde album: “When The Owl Cries” (Starman Records)
Dit nieuwe, scherp rockende album is een mix van een halve eeuw classic rock & blues, met een flinke scheut sixties, waarbij Souffreau terugblikt én vooruit kijkt naar leven, liefde en carrière, en zich af en toe nog en flink boos maakt op de Wereld.
William Souffreau is één van de laatste Belgische rockers van zijn generatie, laten we hem koesteren en hopen dat er nog veel straffe muziek moge volgen.

Songwriter and singer William Souffreau, 74 meanwhile, is without doubt the éminence grise of Belgian rock, with an extensive discography, and still very active as well as solo (in 2017 Starman Records released the excellent solo album “Tobacco Fields”) as with Irish Coffee.
Irish Coffee was re-launched in 2005 with a studio album and a live album recorded during the group's passage in the legendary German music program Rockpalast (WDR). In 2013 he recorded the excellent “IC Revisited” together with his power rock trio. Followed two years later by the album “When The Owl Cries” (Starman records), which was very well received by fans and the press.
This new, sharply rocking album is a mix of half a century of classic rock & blues, with a dash of sixties, with Souffreau looking back and looking ahead to life, love and career, and occasionally getting very angry with the World.
William Souffreau is one of the last Belgian rockers of his generation, let's cherish him and hope that a lot of great music may follow.
